$54,000 Raised for World Central Kitchen’s “Chefs for Ukraine”
In a show of support for the people of Ukraine, Hunters Run Country Club raised $54,000 to donate to World Central Kitchen’s “Chefs for Ukraine” to provide hot and fresh meals to Ukrainian refugees fleeing the Russian invasion.
Members organized a Ukraine Donation Drive with multiple donation stations set up around the Club indoors and outdoors. Members who donated received a Ukrainian flag to proudly display their support and hope for the people of Ukraine. The Country Club created a signature cocktail called the "Ukraine-Rita” and donated $2 from every drink purchase.
The World Central Kitchen Drive, spearheaded by Abby Ferrara and Sue Layton, surpassed its original $10,000 goal on day one. “Watching the devastation, we had to do something to help the Ukrainian citizens during their time of need. Our members were eager to contribute, and we felt that World Central Kitchen was the best avenue to help thousands and provide extra comfort during these incredibly difficult times. It was very rewarding to see how much support our Hunters Run members exhibited in less than 72 hours,” shared Ms. Layton.
Larry Savvides, Hunters Run Country Club’s Chief Operating Officer, General Manager, said, “It was heartening to see the enthusiastic response displayed so quickly by our members to aid this humanitarian crisis. The generosity of the volunteers to give up days of their time and the generosity of our membership is inspirational. I was honored to demonstrate my support and hope for Ukraine by wearing blue and yellow on March 29th along with our entire membership and employees.”
